17 times on the Zugerberg
Alois Huwiler collects kilometers for the Menzingen cycling club.
The Raiffeisen Zuger-Trophy starts in Menzingen after the summer vacations. This is the start of stage_04 of the Running and Mountain Trophy. Next Saturday, August 10, it starts again, also for Alois Huwiler from Veloclub Menzingen.
The VC Menzingen is once again collecting kilometers this year, with almost 1420 so far. Now that the stage is just around the corner, many more will be added, including for Alois Huwiler, who with 65 starts and 464 kilometers is by far the most diligent and also very fast on the road. In his category of 60-69-year-olds, he is usually on the podium in the running category. And as a member of VC Menzingen, Alois Huwiler is of course also at the start on his bike. He has completed the stage from Schmittli to Zugerberg 17 times. Now the passionate athlete is looking forward to the Menzingen and Ägeri stages: "Menzingen is quite challenging and the loop around Lake Ägeri is and remains a highlight."
Sensational routes
The Veloclub also takes care of signaling and recording the stamped times. Karl Röllin coordinates the effort and explains why his club is helping with the Trophy: "Because our efforts not only offer others, but also ourselves, the opportunity to train competitively on a sensational route in the Zug Highlands."
Altitude meters included
It's not just the Mountain Trophy, which leads up the Chnollen and offers 210 altitude meters over 3.4 km, that makes the participants sweat. The medium and long stages of the Running Trophy are also tough: 8.1 km and 170 meters of elevation gain and 14 km and 260 meters of elevation gain respectively. The climb up the Gubel is definitely not without its challenges, but offers a sensational view.
