5th mountain stage also on record course

Those who collect altitude meters are currently stamping their finish time on the Zugerberg.

Halfway through the four-week stage window, the organizers are already counting more starts on the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy mountain route than last year.

Last year, Trophy participants completed the mountain route from Schmittli via Brunegg to the Zugerberg 520 times. This year there are already that many halfway through the stage. After just two weeks, there are already over 600 starters and the stage runs until Sunday, September 11, 2022. Sepp Aregger from Veloclub Ägeri is delighted with this record course. His club takes care of collecting the stamp cards and - like every club that supervises a stage - receives one franc per start into the club's coffers. The altitude challenge is the reason why the mountain stages are so popular. Zugerberg Finanz AG, presenting sponsor of the Trophy, is giving a cool running or cycling shirt to every participant who completes 8,000 meters of altitude. This gift as well as the socks at 6000 and the bidon at 2000 meters are motivation enough. Especially because it doesn't matter whether you are struggling up the mountain as quickly as possible or whether you are taking a leisurely stroll along the route.

The short 2.1 km, medium 5.9 km and long 16.8 km circuits have also been completed a good 600 times in the first two weeks. The medium route, which starts at the Herti athletics facility and loops along the lake to Choller and back, is particularly popular.

A look at the rankings shows that the best have already started and can still be challenged for around a week and a half. Philipp Arnold is once again leading on all three running routes. Janina Wüst has improved her mountain bike course record by over a minute to 12:56 min and Sibylle Huwiler from Cham has come within 20 seconds of Conny Odermatt's long-standing mountain run course record of 18:35 min.
