All records broken on the Zugerberg
Over 1340 starts - never before have so many times been recorded on a mountain stage as during the past four weeks on the Zugerberg.
The third stage of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy came to an end last Sunday. On the mountain route from Zug to the Zugerberg, there were not only six record times but also a record number of participants.
Just at the start of the third stage on May 22, 2023, we were able to welcome spring, which was now replaced by summer at the end of the stage. Accordingly, many Trophy fans were out and about over the last four weeks.
Never before have so many athletes started on a mountain route as was the case just now with 1342 times on the Zugerberg. Last year there were just 1009 starts here. The stage from Auw to Horben recorded the most starts so far this year with 1228. Sara Hübscher, stage manager from Team Advantage: "It's extremely cool that we were able to welcome so many exercise enthusiasts on 'our' stage and that this record is now coming to us on the Zugerberg!"
New course records were also set in all disciplines: Christian Sommer beat Philipp Arnold's running record by eight seconds, completing the mountain course in 25:59 minutes. Anja Koch runs 35:13 minutes, 20 seconds faster than Maria Gerber last year. Kevin Zürcher improves his own course record on the road bike by 16 seconds to 17:01 minutes and Claudia Suter rides almost two minutes faster than in 2022 in 20:28. Urs Huber wins on the mountain bike in 18:17, improving Kevin Zürcher's record by 57 seconds, and Janina Wüst is also 44 seconds faster than last year in 23:11 minutes.
The duel between Sommer and Arnold is not only on the mountain, but also on the circuit. In Ennetsee, Arnold won the short lap, while Sommer had the fastest legs over the medium and long distances. The gap between the two was just a few seconds in each case. Among the women, Myriam Keiser won the short distance and Doris Nagel-Wallimann was once again the fastest on the medium and long laps.
The Zugerberg Finanz Trophy for the mountain and circuit courses has been held in Menzingen since Monday. How many starters will the Menzingen Cycling Club have on its stage?
