Almost 2900 starts on the first stage
The first stage of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy ends with a record number of participants. The Trophy stages are currently underway in Baar and from Root to Michaelskreuz.
The second stage of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy started in Baar and Root on Monday. The first stage ended with a fantastic number of participants.
Over the last four weeks, around 1700 times were recorded in the Steinhauser Wald forest on the short, medium, long and orienteering courses. The Trophy participants covered an incredible 12,450 kilometers and 180,600 meters of altitude. The mountain route from Auw to Horben was also popular once again. Over 320 athletes covered the 4.8 kilometers 1220 times. That makes 404,000 meters in altitude!
Arnold and Nagel-Wallimann once again top
The ranking list includes familiar names. One in particular stands out again this year. Philipp Arnold from Cham is once again in top form. In addition to his strong times at the Trophy, he ran the Zurich Marathon last Sunday in a new personal best time of 2:31:24 h (3:35 min/km). He took first place in three categories on the first stage of the Trophy. On the 12.3-kilometre course in the Steinhauser Forest, his time of 42:02 minutes was just twelve seconds off last year's course record. On the short course, he won ahead of Daniel Müller. Like last year, Frederik Staal secured victory on the medium course. He thus wins the category ahead of Arnold. The fastest women were Céline Osborn-Smith (short), Seline Stalder (medium) and Doris Nagel-Wallimann (long). Like Arnold, Nagel-Wallimann also improved her marathon best time last Sunday. In London, she crossed the finish line after 2:46:11 hours.
At Horben, Urs Huber pulverized the previous MTB record. He set the new mark at 13:58 minutes, 47 seconds under the previous record. Nina Villiger was the fastest mountain biker among the women. As in the last two years, Kevin Zürcher and Claudia Sutter were unbeatable on the road bike. Arnold is once again at the top of the mountain runners' rankings and Seline Stalder also won the mountain run classification in addition to the middle distance in Steinhausen.
