It all starts on Saturday!
On February 21, 2026, the 22nd edition of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy will start with the "pre-start stage" with start and finish at the Herti athletics facility. This marks the start of the Zug altitude and kilometer collection.
The "pre-start" is a warm-up phase for all those who don't want to wait until March 21, 2026, when the official starting signal is given for the first stage in Steinhausen (circular route) and Auw (mountain route). This warm-up lap corresponds to the middle lap of the Zug stage and covers 6.7 kilometers along the lake and the old and new Lorze rivers. If you want to be at the front of the overall classification for the most kilometers, you are well advised to lace up your running or walking shoes now.
What's new in 2026?
There are no changes to the "pre-start". However, the start of the first official stage on March 21, 2026 marks the beginning of a new era for the Trophy. From this year, it will take place without the legendary timing machines. The machines did their job for 21 years, but are now extremely prone to errors and break down time and time again. As not many times were recorded with the card anyway, the organizers are dispensing with their use. The times can still be recorded easily: Manual entry on the website or in conjunction with a sports watch, the mobile app or the Strava platform.
From 6 to 7
There are also two new stages: In summer, there will be a new circuit in Cham/Niederwil with a short, medium and long loop. The Walchwilerberg joins the series of mountain stages. The time window for this route runs from Monday, July 13 to Sunday, August 9, 2026. The new mountain stage will also make the "Brevet" even more challenging. If you want to complete all the mountain stages in one ride, you now have to reckon with around 150 kilometers and 3200 meters of altitude. The time window in which you can classify yourself for this challenge runs from March 21 to October 2, 2026. The same period applies to all circular stages, whereby course records must be run in the official time window.
