Brilliant start in Steinhausen

The Winter Challenge ended last Friday with 848 participants - a record. Two more records followed on Saturday, on the long stage in Steinhausen.
534 times were recorded on the Winter Challenge last year. More than ever before. The increase of almost 60 per cent to 848 participants this year makes the organizers very happy. "We are impressed. It's great that the Winter Challenge is getting so many Zug residents moving," says project manager Reto Benz about the overwhelming number of participants.
Record at premiere
The first two stages have been running since Saturday, March 20: The Running Trophy starting in Steinhausen and the Mountain Trophy with the route from Auw to Horben. The sunny start day also attracted Doris Nagel-Wallimann and Philipp Arnold to the course. Both are known for their fast times, including several course records. Both started on the long 12.3 km loop. This was a first for Doris Nagel-Wallimann. She had never run the course before. The clock stopped after 47:41 minutes, which after the course record on the Winter Challenge also meant a course record on stage 01_Steinhausen. She beat Rita Wicki's previous best time by almost five minutes.
Own record improved
Philipp Arnold also set a new course record over the 12.3 km on the opening day. He loves cool temperatures. That's why the conditions on Saturday were ideal for him, said the polyathlete from Cham. He improved his own record by 19 seconds to 41:54 minutes.
