The Menzingen Cycling Club Celebrates the Trophy
The Menzingen Cycling Club is currently leading our club standings—and is celebrating with a casual barbecue
Shortly before the official start of their own stage, the members of the Menzingen Cycling Club are gathering for a relaxed barbecue. This Saturday afternoon, they’re celebrating their current lead in the club rankings.
Since we’ve been guests in Menzingen, our stage has been supported by the Menzingen Cycling Club—in two ways. Menzingen is, in fact, the only location with both a mountain stage and a circuit stage start. While all circuit stages are signposted from late March to early October, this applies to the mountain stage only during the official four-week window. So from now until Sunday, July 12, 2026, all attention is focused on the action in the Zuger Highlands.
Trophy Newcomer in the Lead
The stage opening alone would be reason enough to celebrate. But the cycling club is currently particularly thrilled about its lead in the team standings. “This is a very unusual sight for us,” says Kari Röllin in his role as stage manager, adding: “Normally, the Höllgrotten Harriers are way ahead of us. Just like the Zug International Women’s Club. Now, of course, we’re giving it our all so we don’t let the lead slip away.” The club owes its strong position to a few hardworking members, led by Paul von Holzen. As a Trophy newcomer, he’s going all out and currently leads both the kilometer and elevation gain challenges. In the kilometer standings, he’s locked in a neck-and-neck race with Armin Kirchhofer. As these lines are being written, just one kilometer separates the two. In the elevation gain category, the passionate cyclist has once again built a lead of over 1,000 meters. However, second-place Peter Berweger from Walchwil isn’t ready to concede defeat just yet and will stay on the Menzinger’s heels.
By the way, completing a Trophy lap was mandatory to be able to help yourself to the delicious barbecue buffet. Stories like this are particularly heartwarming for the organizers of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy, as they embody the idea behind the project: getting active together and spending a good, convivial time with one another.
