Dinner has to be earned

The Menzingen Cycling Club has been organizing the Menzingen stages of the Zugerberg Finance Trophy for over ten years. The highlight is the barbecue evening preceded by a mileage collection.
Last Saturday, the members of the Menzingen Cycling Club met behind the village schoolhouse for a barbecue evening. Anyone who had previously completed at least one stage of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy was allowed to take part. Kari Röllin and his club members are the only stage organizers responsible for both the mountain and circuit stages.
"We are normally a large group that comes together for this Trophy barbecue," says President Patrik Zgraggen, "but something else has come up for many members today." This Saturday, the number of participants may have been slightly lower than before. However, the 2nd place in the club rankings proves it: The Veloclübler are hard at work on the Trophy. First and foremost Daniel Etter, who took the lead in the altitude challenge on July 1. Etter didn't plan to take part so often, "but suddenly the fire started to blaze and I rode the mountain stage four or five times in a row," says the passionate cyclist. Thanks to his early retirement, he now has more time for his beloved hobby. "I like training on the Trophy because it allows me to get fit for longer bike tours."

Stage sponsor Christian Pötzsch also accepted the invitation to a cozy barbecue. With his company CP Sports, he supports and trains anyone who wants to improve their fitness level. He regularly rides the Trophy routes with his two athletes Janina Wüst and Claudia Sutter - and this training pays off: Wüst became European mountain bike marathon runner-up at the end of June and Sutter won the "Chasing Cancellara" race from Zurich to Zermatt last year. When Christian Pötzsch talks about the successes of the two cyclists, he adds with a grin: "And no, I don't mind that they're both a lot faster than me."
