Emotional conclusion to this year's Zugerberg Finanz Trophy
The 2022 Trophy season ended last Friday, and on the same evening the presenting sponsor invited all those who had reached the 8,000-metre altitude mark to an aperitif.
120 participants reached this mark, and over half of them accepted the invitation from Zugerberg Finanz AG to toast their achievements. A fantastic finale, with special respect paid to three successes. Daniel Etter pedaled the 8,000 metres of altitude not just once, but 13 times. In the end it was 105,000! Project manager Reto Benz commented: "If you go on an extensive bike tour, you come back with 100 km and a few meters of altitude. Now imagine if you had to cycle the 100 km vertically!" Etter put it into perspective: "You simply have to ride the stage practically every day, preferably several times." And next year? "Hopefully I'll be riding regularly again, but certainly not on this scale," says the retired Menzinger. His partner Marit Seidel was also delighted with the special prize, which, like Heidi Müller, she received for her equally impressive total of almost 90,000 vertical meters. She has often accompanied Daniel and has actually lost seven kilos since March.
Trophy addiction
It was an evening full of overwhelming stories that also touched Timo Dainese, host and CEO of Zugerberg Finanz AG: "It's simply amazing how we can move people with our commitment." He is already looking ahead to the 2023 edition with motivation, because "after the Trophy is before the Trophy." Representative of the many stories is that of Reni Linder: "Suddenly I was hooked!" Excuse me? "Yes, suddenly I considered it a realistic goal to make it into the top 10 participants who collect the most kilometers." She achieved her goal with 9th place and not only that: she ran by far the most kilometers for her club, Swiss Lauftreff Cham. This earned the running club 4th place in the club ranking. Her colleague Monika Thormann adds: "And she infected me with Trophy fever. I used to drive all the way from Horgen to run one or more laps with her!"
Who will be infected by which goal next year? We are curious! The pre-start starts again on March 25, 2023.
