Finding balance with Stöckli
Stöckli branch rider Andi Amstutz gives valuable tips.
Stöckli supports the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy as a co-sponsor. René Lang, branch manager of the Stöckli branch in Cham, therefore invites Trophy participants to a free bike technique course every year. This year, eleven athletes accepted the invitation.
No more Stöckli bikes
René Lang welcomes the bikers with a handful of background information about Stöckli. He explains why Stöckli has withdrawn from bike production: "With the number of bikes we produced, we were more of a problem for suppliers than a customer." That's why they now rely on the established Swiss brands BMC, Bixs and Flyer.
Finding your balance
After the introduction, balance exercises start on the school playground in Hagendorn. Andi Amstutz and Beat Lustenberger, two "Stöckli branch riders", show how to train your balance: Riding, placing a water bottle on the ground and picking it up again - not as easy as it sounds.
Valuable tips
On the following tour, we practise starting off on a hill. What do you need to do to keep the front wheel on the ground, even on steep slopes? "You have to sit right at the front on the tip of the saddle and pull your elbows towards your hips," advises Beat. Heard it, done it - and it works! That alone made attending the course worthwhile. Equally valuable is the tip on how to brake downhill so that braking doesn't lead to a rollover. Andi explains: "You have to shift your center of gravity as far back as possible. So with your buttocks over the rear wheel." That works too. This makes biking really fun.
