Great potential for track records
Often out and about in the Steinhauserwald, but for the first time at the Trophy: Kamal Bouchboura
Kamal Bouchboura dreams of the Olympics. It won't happen this year, but in three years' time he would like to be competing for Morocco. He competed in the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy for the first time in mid-March.
The 31-year-old Kamal Bouchboura would actually like to train in a group. But he can't find one with runners who are as fast as he is. "I once trained with the Cham running group, but then realized that it wasn't a good fit," says Bouchboura. Now he is training on his own again, but according to the training plan of Patricia Morceli, the head of the Cham running group. His next goal is to run the half marathon two minutes faster, in 63 minutes. His best time over 10 kilometers is currently 30 minutes.
Discovered running at 16
Bouchboura trains twice a day and runs around 175 kilometers per week. At the same time, he is training to become an assistant nurse at the Red Cross in Baar. Kamal Bouchbura discovered running at the age of 16. "This sport is popular in Morocco. The training conditions are correspondingly good." Bouchboura has lived in Switzerland for five years. "Because of the sport and because of love," he says with a smile. He likes life in Switzerland. He had worked as a tour guide in Morocco and therefore already spoke German when he came here. With knowledge of English, French, Arabic and a Berber language, communication is no problem for him.
Familiar terrain
Kamal Bouchboura runs most of his training kilometers in the Steinhauser Forest. So he is very familiar with the terrain, but the Trophy is new to him. Now he also knows why he often came across runners with a white slip of paper in their hands. "That was probably their stamp card!" Studying the current course records, the ambitious runner said: "Yes, there should be a new best time in there." We are curious.
