Grand Finale of the 2026 Season
The most active participants celebrated the end of the 2026 season.
On Friday evening, October 2, 2026, this year’s Zugerberg Finanz Trophy came to a close. More than 100 participants gathered on the grounds of Zugerberg Finanz AG to mark the end of the season and honor the most active athletes.
After the hot temperatures during the season, Friday evening was pleasantly cool. As is customary at the end of the season, Zugerberg Finanz AG, in its role as presenting sponsor, invited those participants who had either completed 10,000 meters of elevation gain, 300 kilometers, or the cycling brevet (all mountain routes in a single ride on the same day) to a cocktail reception. A diverse group of active people accepted the invitation—from young to old, from fast to leisurely, traveling on foot or by bike.
The Battle at the Top
Peter Berweger from Walchwil set the bar so high that no one could keep up with him: His stats show just under 102,000 meters of elevation gain and over 1,600 kilometers. For a long time, he was locked in a neck-and-neck race with second-place finisher Paul von Holzen before he was able to pull away decisively. The passionate athlete built up his lead in part through “Everesting,” which he completed during his summer vacation on the Walchwilerberg. Starting at 2:40 a.m., he climbed his local mountain 18 times in a row, thereby reaching the height of Mount Everest.
The delegation from the Menzingen Cycling Club was also delighted; with just under 9,300 kilometers, the club won the team classification for the second time since 2022. Among the companies, Siemens came out on top again this year—and for the third time overall—with nearly 4,000 kilometers. With around 14,800 starts and a total of 86,300 kilometers logged, project manager Reto Benz gave a positive assessment: “The heat certainly kept one or two people from participating. It was also the first season without the legendary timing devices, meaning we relied entirely on digital timing. In preparation for the next edition, we’ll analyze this year’s figures in detail.” The 23rd edition of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy will begin on February 20, 2027, with the pre-start lap in Zug and the official start on March 20, 2027—likely featuring an additional virtual fun element.
