"It's a bizzeli club championship"
The members of Veloclub Ägeri took on the Trophy stage on the Zugerberg together.
The current mountain stage of the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy starts at Schmittli in Neuägeri. The Veloclub Ägeri (VCA) met there on another hot summer evening for a joint ride up the Zugerberg.
When asked whether it was an internal club race, Marcel Aregger, member of the VCA board, says: "It's a bit of a joke." Some would take the ride more seriously than others. For Aregger, the focus is on having fun, even though - or perhaps because - he himself used to be a professional racer and was under contract to Team IAM Cycling. Today, it is the youngsters who bring home podium places for VC Ägeri. Like Gian Müller, for example. The son of VCA board member Roland Müller achieved seven 1st places in national races in the U11 category in 2018 alone. Children from the age of around 10 can train with VC Ägeri.
Marked in the calendar
There are 16 club members on this evening. However, the club has around 130 members in total. In spring, the Ägeri club starts the season with a weekly Saturday ride. The cycling vacations in Croatia follow in April and then the members meet on Wednesdays for a joint training session. The Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy is marked in the club website calendar. Marcel Aregger collects the stamp cards together with his father and another club colleague: "Every day, one of us rides up to the finish and collects the cards."
Also active in guessing
The last stage of the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy is on September 10, 2018. From then on, the goal is to guess for four weeks. Roland Müller is in charge of this stage. Cycling on the Raten every day? "No, not that after all. I sometimes drive up by car to pick up the maps," admits Müller.
