Janina Wüst wins mountain bike category

Next Friday, October 2 at 6 p.m., the Zug Trophy 2020 will be over. Mountain biker Janina Wüst has already completed all the stages - and won.

Janina Wüst lives in Lupfig (AG) and is a member of Racing-Club Gränichen. So how did the 26-year-old come to the Zuger Trophy? "While looking for a coach, I came across Christian Pötzsch from cp sports by chance in spring 2018. As a stage sponsor, he knows the Trophy inside out and motivated me to take part." And Janina Wüst took off. She won three of the four stages of the shortened Mountain Trophy, including new course records.

Strong improvement
In order to be able to concentrate on the sport, the primary school teacher resigned from her job in July of this year and now only takes on occasional substitutions. Since working with her new coach, the mountain biker has been able to significantly improve her performance. "Christian Pötzsch has incredible expertise. The training is varied and the collaboration works really well. I'm grateful to have found a coach like him."

Difficult season
The season was also difficult in mountain biking. Wüst was aiming for the top 40 in the World Cup and top 10 in the Swiss Bike Cup. Due to the numerous canceled events, she has to redefine her goals and reorient herself for 2021. "The few races were very competitive and the first World Cup race will even take place on the first weekend in October." She is very curious to see where she stands in comparison to the absolute world leaders.

Zug Trophy 2021?
She will have to discuss with her coach whether she will take part in the Zug Trophy again next year. However, there are likely to be a few stages: "I always want to improve and the ambition is there to beat my times next year," says the rider from Aargau, adding: "And the area around Zug is really beautiful for biking."
