New names at the top
It continues in Menzingen on August 10.
The Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy is taking a break until August 10, 2019. However, the Zug and Schmittli-Zugerberg stages remained exciting right to the end. There are some new names among the fastest runners.
A new name appears in the men's rankings, right at the top over the short distance of 2.1 km. Stefan Mortier from LK Zug won the ranking with a time of 6:22 minutes. And he did so on his Trophy debut. David Gärtner from Baar was the fastest on the middle lap over 5.9 km and Philipp Arnold from Cham once again remained unbeaten over the 16.8 km. Andrina Lustenberger from SAC Rossberg won a women's stage for the first time. With a time of 11:29 minutes, she is first on the podium over the short distance. The other two winners are Joanna Murphy from Cham and Rita Wicki from Römerswil.
Victory at the first start
From the Schmittli in Neuägeri up to the Zugerberg, there were 290 meters of altitude to overcome over 3.3 kilometers. Philipp Arnold ran the fastest here too. Jennifer Heer relegated the serial winner Conny Odermatt to second place. Heer wins with a 21-second lead. There is also a new name at the top of the road bike category. Claudia Sutter from Lucerne won the stage in 13:47 minutes. She starts for the same team as Jens Groos, who this time had to give way to Kevin Zürcher from Zug. Zürcher wins with a new course record in 10:47 minutes. On his mountain bike, Benno Sidler from Baar takes his first victory at the first start of the season. His time of 11:59 minutes was just 8 seconds off the course record. The winner of the women's race is no surprise. Eveline Villiger from Auw has won all the MTB stages so far.
Around the world
After two thirds of this year's edition, the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy has recorded a total of 6114 starts by 1341 participants. That makes just under 35,500 kilometers. Add to that the 700 or so starts and 2,650 kilometers from the School Trophy, and you have more than completed the circumnavigation of the globe. The Trophy moves Zug again from August 10, 2019 in Menzingen.
