One that defies the heat
Reto Bosshard took part in the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy for the first time last week. The hot temperatures don't bother him.
Outdoor athletes currently have to get up early if they want to train in reasonably pleasant temperatures. But there are also bold people who go for a leisurely run in the afternoon.
One of these bold runners is Reto Bosshard from Rotkreuz, for example. He took part in the Trophy for the first time last Wednesday with the Swiss Lauftreff Cham. The 60-year-old recently started running with the club. Bosshard had heard about the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy much earlier, so now he was able to take part for the first time. This first participation was followed just three days later by the second, on Saturday afternoon shortly before 3 pm. The sun was blazing, but that didn't bother Reto. "Yes, it was quite warm, but for the almost six kilometers at a rather leisurely pace, it didn't matter."
From hiker to trail runner
Reto Bosshard is actually more of a mountain runner. He used to mainly hike until he signed up for the glacier trail run in Ötztal six years ago - still without any running experience. "We've been going there on vacation for years and I always thought what kind of 'weirdos' they must be, running at an altitude of between 2,000 and 3,000 meters over what used to be 22 and is now 26 to 62 challenging kilometers." Then he simply tried it out for himself. "Of course I was born, but at the same time I discovered my love of trail running. Since then, I have taken part in every glacier trail run, this year for the first time over the 42 kilometers with 2800 meters of altitude." For training, Reto sometimes runs from Rotkreuz to Küssnacht, then over the Rigi via Arth to the Wildspitz. "It's more of an exception if you meet me here on the flat," says Bosshard with a grin.
He also enjoys training with his new running group, the Swiss Lauftreff in Cham. "We chat a lot and it's not about who's the fastest. I really appreciate that." The Swiss Lauftreff is currently in 5th place in the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy club rankings. If Reto Bosshard also discovers the Trophy mountain routes for himself, he is likely to add a few more mountain kilometers soon.
