Sylvia Binzegger: "Orienteering is the ideal family sport."
Sylvia Binzegger is the perfect companion for a Sunday morning round of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy. Hardly anyone knows exactly what is going on on and off the Baar stage.
Sylvia Binzegger is a local councillor and has been a member of the Concordia Baar Gymnastics and Sports Club (TSV) and the Zug Orienteering Association (OLV) from a young age. She has been a member of the Baar municipal council for 18 years and witnessed the start of the Baar stage in 2007. As a member of TSV Concordia, she is part of the club that runs the stage. The members read the stamp cards and take care of the route markings. And as an orienteer, she knows the terrain inside out. "I did my first orienteering runs in this forest when I was a girl," says the 59-year-old. The OLV marks out the ten posts and draws the maps. As a result, we learn a lot on this run about a marginal sport that shouldn't really be one.
For mind and body
"Orienteering is the ideal family sport," says Sylvia Binzegger, "three generations take part in many competitions; grandparents, parents and children." No wonder, because orienteering is ideal for developing children's sense of direction. "And after all, developing a sense of direction is part of the curriculum," says the school president and head of the schools/education department. On this Sunday morning, she explains to the orienteering newcomers what they need to look out for when reading maps. And the newcomers are fascinated: What an exciting sport! A sport that challenges the mind and body in equal measure, outdoors in the beautiful natural surroundings.
Regular Trophy runner
Sylvia Binzegger has been running one or more Trophy laps in Baar since the first event, preferably the medium distance. She also enjoys running a stage in Steinhausen. "The other Trophy routes are less of an option for me, as I prefer natural roads to asphalt."
