Orienteering - The new Trophy challenge

At the 15th edition of the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy, participants can look forward to the new challenge of orienteering. Guaranteed fun for ambitious runners and families alike.

The idea was put forward by the Zug Orienteering Association (OLV Zug), or more precisely Stefan Spirgi, a member of the OLV. He contacted Reto Benz, project manager of the Raiffeisen Zuger-Trophy, with the suggestion of setting up orienteering posts along the Trophy routes. "We could set up orienteering maps that participants could put back after use," Spirgi roughly formulated the idea. No sooner said than done. He devised an orienteering circuit with ten posts for each stage. The length is between 3.1 and 4.5 kilometers. The fastest runners therefore only need around 20 minutes. Families with children may also take an hour and a half.

Trial year
Whether the idea proves successful depends heavily on the behavior of the participants. Only the official paths may be used to reach the posts. Cross-country walking is prohibited so as not to damage the meadows and fields. Compliance with this rule is a prerequisite for the Trophy organizers to receive the orienteering course permit again next year. It is also important that orienteering maps are returned after use so that the next person has a chance. Unfortunately, vandalism is also a risk. If the maps or posts are stolen or destroyed, the project is no fun.

Start of the Winter Challenge
Before you can prove yourself on the orienteering routes on March 23, the Winter Challenge will start next Saturday, February 23. The start and finish as well as the route correspond to the middle lap of stage 05_Zug. The time will be recorded using a smartphone.
