Premiere for Cham municipal council

Over 150 times were recorded on the opening weekend of the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy in Ennetsee. One of them was set by Arno Grüter, a member of the Cham municipal council.
It is Arno Grüter's first Trophy start. "I've seen the markings many times, but I've never taken part before," says Grüter before setting off on the middle lap on Sunday morning. A few years ago, he took part in half marathons, but now he enjoys his morning home run. "I start three times a week at around 6 am. Always the same route, in winter with a headlamp, in summer with the first rays of sunshine. A kind of meditation." He loves starting the day like this.
Well positioned
The 44-year-old from Willisau moved to Cham with his family in 2012. Just six months later, he was elected to the office of FDP party president, which he held for six years. In 2018, he was elected to the Cham municipal council, where he has been in charge of education since the beginning of 2019. "Sport also falls within my remit. So I also wear the hat of Cham's sports minister," says Grüter with a grin. And how does he think Cham is doing when it comes to sport? "Cham has practically everything. Above all, the active club life is one of our municipality's trump cards. Athletics, football, rowing, wrestling, chess... We are very well and broadly positioned. With the OYM, I expect a further boost in the area of sport, but also in education, which we should take advantage of."
Sport is good for you
In addition to regular jogging, Arno Grüter likes to ride his mountain bike or his "Quer-Velo". "Sport in the great outdoors is simply good for balance." And this is necessary with his busy agenda. In addition to his political office, Arno Grüter works as an asset manager and independent management consultant. The last few weeks as a local councillor in Cham have been quieter, especially in the evenings. He is pleased that normality is now gradually returning. At the finish line in the Badi Hünenberg, the question arises as to whether Arno Grüter's Trophy account will see more starts. "A great thing. My ambitions are awakened. Next time I'll run for time."
