Racing bike fun for the youngest

The youngest members of Veloclub (VC) Ägeri ride out together every Thursday or complete technical training sessions. Not on mountain bikes, but on racing bikes.
Roland Müller is a passionate cyclist and is also professionally involved in the sport. He is the one who set up the youth training program together with Marcel Aregger, former professional racing cyclist (Team IAM Cycling). "We lack young talent. That's why we set ourselves the goal of offering specific road bike training for children and young people," says Müller. And the two have succeeded. Roland Müller and Marcel Aregger take it in turns to lead the training of the group of almost ten, in which the youngest is eight and the oldest fourteen years old.
Fast and cool
Last week, they completed the mountain stage of the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy together, for which Roland Müller is responsible. Siblings Lian and Carina Iten also battled their way up the six kilometers from Oberägeri with their club colleagues. Lian is the youngest and Carina the only girl. When asked if she would like to have female support, she says: "I'm often the only girl. That doesn't bother me." Everyone in the group also enjoys mountain biking, but they all agree that the speed on a racing bike is particularly cool. The speed is high for eleven-year-old Gian, Roland Müller's son. "He's been faster than me uphill since last season. I have to come to terms with that," smiles the proud father. Gian has competed in twelve national races this year, taking six podium places.
Inspiring enthusiasm for racing bikes
VC Ägeri is one of the few clubs in the region to offer specific racing bike training for youngsters. Roland Müller emphasizes the importance of making racing bikes appealing to young sports enthusiasts: "We give them the opportunity to get to know this beautiful sport."
