"The level is high"
He came, saw and won: Urs Huber from Mettmenstetten.
The second last stage of the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy ended on Sunday. With Urs Huber, a new name appears on the ranking list.
Whenever a new name appears at the top of the Trophy rankings, the organizers do a quick check to see if everything was above board in the respective brilliant performance. On the stage from the Schmittli to the Zugerberg, a new name in the mountain bike category immediately sets a course record: Urs Huber from Mettmenstetten, the Swiss champion in the mountain bike marathon in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
What made him decide to complete his first stage right now? "I train practically every day in Zugerland and have often heard about the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy, but never really looked into it. When I happened to see the box on the Zugerberg, I was hooked and set off the next day to complete my first Trophy stage." The result was a seven-second improvement on the course record. Last Friday, Huber also wanted to set a best time on his racing bike. However, he missed this by a few seconds. "That shows that the standard here is quite high," the professional cyclist concludes. Although he didn't set a course record, he still won the stage in the road bike category. Perhaps he will try to ride all the stages next year, because he thinks "the project is a cool thing".
Two more course records
In the women's category, well-known names are once again at the top of the rankings: Claudia Sutter wins on a road bike, Janina Wüst on a mountain bike. Wüst also improves her course record by over a minute! In the race, Myriam Abächerli-Keiser - also with a course record - and Philipp Arnold covered the mountain course the fastest. The two also each won a stage of the circuit with start and finish in Herti. Arnold wins the short course and Abächerli-Keiser the long course. Andrina Lustenberger is the fastest runner on the short course and Stefan Bossert on the long course. Christian Sommer and Doris Nagel-Wallimann win the middle distance.
