The stage ends on Sunday
The Mountain Trophy athletes will once again be rewarded with wonderful sunsets from Monday - hopefully!
The second stages of the Running and Mountain Trophy will end on Sunday. From Monday, the 03_stages in Ennetsee - with a new long route - and on the Zugerberg will start.
If you want to keep your place in the overall standings across all six stages, you have to clock your time in Baar or at Michaelskreuz by 4 p.m. next Sunday, May 19. Due to the often nasty conditions, no participant records are on the cards for the two stages. Nevertheless, one week before the end of the stage, the organizers have counted over 570 starts in Baar and a good 170 in Gisikon.
Shortened route
The Running Trophy starts on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Badi Hünenberg. Stage 03_Ennetsee offers three routes over 2.2 km, 5.1 km and now 14 km instead of 21.2 km. Daniel Föllmi is in charge of the stage with the Cham running group. "The routes along Lake Zug are very varied. Even if the loop to Immensee is omitted, there are still 190 meters of altitude to conquer on the long loop," says Föllmi, who is usually in the top ten himself, describing the stage.
The Zug Alpe d'Huez
2.4 km, 14 % average gradient and 320 meters of altitude - these are the hard facts of stage 03_Zug-Zugerberg. The Baar-Zug cycling club, coordinated by Paulina Wielinska, is responsible for the stage. As the route is challenging from the very first meter, it is often compared to the legendary climb up the Alpe d'Huez in the Tour de France. The Zugerberg Trail provides an adrenaline rush on the descent.
Zugerberg Classic training
The new edition of the Zugerberg Classic will take place on Global Running Day on June 5. The mountain stage is therefore ideal for the last training sessions before the Zug Classic. The Trophy route is ideal for toughening up, precisely because the incline on the 6.5 km, 540-metre route is not quite so extreme.
