"The training progress motivates me."
Corsin Knüsel from Sins documented his first pass ride in his final thesis
Corsin Knüsel rode up the Horben five times on the first Trophy Sunday. He is currently in 5th place on his road bike and 6th place on his mountain bike. He was born in 2005.
It was a good three years ago when football was no longer his thing, so Corsin Knüsel accompanied his father to his bike training sessions. He was immediately hooked on the sport and it has been his favorite pastime for a good two years now.
Pass ride as final thesis
In December 2020, Corsin Knüsel had to decide on the topic for his final thesis. He came up with the idea of documenting his training preparations for his first mountain pass ride: "I've never ridden a mountain pass before. Combining this goal with writing my thesis appealed to me." In January 2021, Corsin Knüsel began planning his first mountain pass ride in detail. The Trophy stage from Auw to Horben is practically on the Sinser's doorstep. The altitude challenge was an additional incentive, as Corsin writes in his work: "I collected the two awards [for 2,500 and 5,000 meters of altitude] after a few rides." On 8 May 2021, the time had come; from Biasca over the Lukmanier, on over the Oberalp to Altdorf, 153 km and over 3,100 vertical meters. Corsin reached his destination. "I realized that regular training pays off pretty quickly. The progress I made in training motivated me," he concluded.
Goals for 2022
This year, he wants to build on his performance. "Because the delivery of my new racing bike was delayed, I was only out on my mountain bike until the beginning of April," says the apprentice roofer. The new racing bike has now arrived and Corsin improved his Horben time by four minutes last Saturday! Once again, he wants to reach the top limit of the altitude challenge, which is now 8,000 meters. He also wants to surpass his 6,000 annual kilometers from 2021. "I like to measure myself and I'm pleased that I'm currently at the front of the Trophy."
