"You always meet new people"
At the age of 74, Armin Kirchhofer has been on the Trophy more often this year than ever before.
Armin Kirchhofer is the best example of how the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy moves and connects people. The 74-year-old from Baar has been taking part since the first editions - and is now running more than ever.
The trained design engineer grew up in Wikon near Zofingen. At the age of 37, he moved to Baar, where he has lived ever since and can look back on 28 years at V-Zug. Since his retirement, his name has risen from year to year in the mileage rankings. Last year was the first time he had covered over 1000 kilometers. With over 510 kilometers already this season, there is likely to be a new record and almost certainly a podium place in this category.
In the fresh air
"The Trophy keeps me fit," says Armin Kirchhofer, who as a young decathlete preferred to compete in the pole vault and long jump disciplines. Later, his preference shifted towards running. As a result, he completed practically all the races in German-speaking Switzerland, right up to the marathon distance. "Today I only run the Trophy. I no longer need official competitions". To build on his times from the previous year, Armin runs a lap of the Vita Parcours once a week. Does he also supplement his strength training with visits to the gym? "Oh no, that's not for me. I need the fresh air!"
The best socks
Whenever possible, father Armin and daughter Yvonne are out on the Trophy together twice a week. In addition to this great company, he also enjoys meeting new people. "I know a few faces from Veloclub Menzingen, as well as from the Höllgrotten Harriers. There really are a lot of them out and about. I like the way you get into conversation with each other. That way, I occasionally find like-minded people to run with."
Of course, Armin wears the latest Trophy socks, which he has already earned with the many kilometers he has run. "These are the best socks I've ever had," he says, delighted with the cool gift from the presenting sponsor.
