Back on the Trophy after six years.
Doris Nagel-Wallimann took part in the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy more than six years ago. She was already fast back then. Now she has returned with two distance records.
The Entlebuch resident from Hünenberg completed her first run, the 10-kilometre women's race in Bern, in a time of 47:48 minutes. That was in 2009, a strong performance for her first time. Doris remembers: "I wasn't nervous at all because I had no idea what to expect." Today, her best time is 38:27 minutes, set at the Rotsee Run in 2019. In the same year, the mother of two boys ran the Zurich Marathon in an incredible time of 2:55 hours. A year earlier, she ran her fastest half marathon in Lucerne in 1:24:16 hours.
Other priorities
In view of this palmares, the two course records over the short and medium Trophy distances are not surprising. "For me, running is about relaxing and being able to switch off, but also about pushing my body and pushing myself physically to the limit." Doris completed all the short stages six years ago. As a member of the Cham running group, she added a few extra laps on the middle stage 03_Ennetsee. Doris Nagel-Wallimann then stayed away from the Trophy with one exception in 2016. "The main reason was the births of my two children. I set other priorities."
A big puzzle
And how do you get so fast? Training with the Cham running group and the support of coach Patricia Morceli are the key. "Talent is certainly part of it, but nothing works without hard training." Doris has also completely cut out sugar for over a year, "since then I feel even more energetic, but ultimately it's a big puzzle where everything just has to be right." She will also attack the course records for the other stages. "Except in Ennetsee, where I probably don't stand a chance against Patricia Morceli's records," says Doris with a smile.
The race continues
The start of the third stage has been brought forward and will take place next Saturday, May 2.
