From Davos to the Zug Highlands

Zug Highlands - that's what the Menzing moraine hills are often called. The Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy is currently running through this beautiful landscape. Philipp Menzi, board member of SC Menzingen, is delighted.
Philipp Menzi grew up in Davos at 1560 meters above sea level, almost at the height of the Wildspitz, the highest point in the canton of Zug. After various stops in the lowlands, he arrived in Edlibach, almost halfway up, twelve years ago. It is no surprise that the 49-year-old family man likes it here so much. The landscape formed by ice-age glaciers is of national importance to the Swiss Confederation. Menzingen lies between the gently rolling moraine hills, a paradise for nature lovers like the Menzi family.
Growing up with field hockey
Once he arrived in the municipality of Menzingen, Philipp Menzi became a club man. He had never been a member of anything for all those years until he was approached by Menzingen Sports Club. "I grew up with ice hockey. Football wasn't an issue, but the request to join the board appealed to me." So he accepted without further ado. Menzi has now been in charge of events and vice president of one of Menzing's most popular clubs for a good seven years. The football club has around 300 members and 15 teams. And now that he has got to know the Zug Trophy, he will recommend it to his club colleagues: "The perfect alternative training in a beautiful setting and anyone who wants to can compete directly with their teammates. A great thing."
EVZ or HCD
Philipp Menzi likes to go jogging, but he still doesn't lace up his football boots himself. "My son is an active member. It's nothing for me. Shoes with runners say more to me today than those with studs," smiles the Grisons native, who has an EVZ season ticket. "I'm a big fan. It's only when it comes to the classic against HC Davos that it gets difficult," admits Menzi. Then he cheers a little more reservedly. For whom he leaves it open.
