"I run the Trophy because it's good for me"

Cielo Arnold takes part in the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy because it does her good and is happy about the contacts she makes at the start or along the way.

With 1000 kilometers, Cielo Arnold is currently in second place in the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy kilometer ranking behind the leader Daniel Etter. What motivates her?

Cielo Arnold discovered the Zugerberg Finanz Trophy last year, but only started six times. This year is completely different. The Colombian-born runner, who came to Switzerland 23 years ago, has already completed almost 200 Trophy laps this season by walking and jogging. Why does she do it? "Because the encounters along the way are incredibly enjoyable and I feel that the exercise is good for my health," she says.

Numerous friendships made
Before her first pregnancy, she ran a lot. That was 20 years ago; her two sons are 15 and 19 years old. "After that, I tried to get back into it a few times, but somehow it didn't work out. Now it's back on track, and has been since she got to know the Höllgrotten Harriers through a friend two years ago. "Before that, I used to run with my 'Latinas', my South American friends, from time to time. Now we walk together with the Harriers. It's just wonderful how many friendships I've made as a result. It's also great that we meet up with the members of the Menzingen cycling club more often this year," enthuses the fifty-year-old. She tells a wonderful story about this: "At the Harriers, we have fun completing various challenges over the course of the year. These include, for example, taking a photo with an unknown runner. On the first stage in Steinhausen, I asked a man if I could take a quick photo with him, but forgot to ask his name. I met him again in the bakery in Menzingen, spoke to him and we got talking again. It turned out that he competes for VC Menzingen."

Aiming for a podium place in the mileage classification was not Cielo's declared goal for the season. Her husband made her aware of this. She admits that the current podium place motivates her to keep going. "But the club ranking is much more important to me than my own position. I would be delighted if we could achieve first place again with the Höllgrotten Harriers."
