A brand new name in the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy: Kevin Zürcher. He came, rode and pulverized the racing bike course record from Oberägeri on the rates.

When an athlete comes out of nowhere and takes first place by a large margin, the organizers of the Zuger Trophy are initially sceptical. Did someone put the bike on the roof of the car? Google reveals that Kevin Zürcher, born in 1992, really is that fast: "Where there's a will, there's a way," is his motto in life.

New in Zug
Kevin Zürcher moved from Schübelbach (SZ) to Zug in December 2017. Around nine months later, after reading about the Zuger Trophy in the media, he won the Mountain Trophy stage from Schmittli to Zugerberg. Just three days later, he set a time of 14:32 minutes on the asphalt in the direction of Raten that no one before him had ever achieved. Impressive. Many an amateur athlete wonders: "How do you get that fast?" Zürcher explains: "I train on my own and by feel, without a training plan. I have it in my head." It's that simple.

Numerous top ten places
One of his greatest successes was winning the Tour de Suisse Challenge in 2015, which is considered the "little Tour de Suisse for amateur riders". This year, he won the Swiss hobby championship on the mountain in Blenio, having already topped the podium at the Central Switzerland championship last year. So it's no wonder that he leads the rankings in the current Mountain Trophy stage.

"Cool thing"
Next year, the overall Trophy ranking could become an issue for Kevin Zürcher: "The Zug Trophy is a really cool thing. The whole thing is very well organized." The cycling season is over for this year. But Zürcher is not going into hibernation just yet: "I'm competing in the half marathon in Lucerne, but I'm not pursuing any particular goal." Someone who cycles so fast is also likely to be among the front runners.
