Opening the Trophy season together
Over a dozen Trophy fans attended the opening race in Steinhausen.
The Zugerberg Finanz Trophy officially kicked off its 20th season on March 23. Over a dozen participants celebrated the opening with a joint run. The new Steinhaus stage managers were also there.
It was a gray Saturday morning when the Trophy fans met at 9 a.m. at the start of stage 01_Steinhausen for the joint run over the middle distance. You know each other, if not live, then at least from the ranking list, where the same other names always appear before and after your own name. So it's all the nicer when you finally meet in real life and can put a face to a name like that.
New stage managers
Each stage is supervised by a club. In Steinhausen, this is the "Allsport" gymnastics club, from which two long-standing club members, Regula and Patrik Gander, have volunteered for this position. While Regula prefers to take part in the Tuesday polysport training sessions, Patrik prefers to go jogging on his own. "I really like our club training, because sometimes we play floorball, sometimes basketball and other times football or badminton," says Regula and Patrik adds: "It's great for me if I can just start running when I'm ready." The two used to run their favorite course, the 8.4-kilometre middle loop, to improve their own time. Today, they prefer to take it easy with their four-year-old daughter, who accompanies them on her bike.
For young and especially older people
Regula says: "When we recorded the times on the stamp cards in previous years, we were always amazed at the number of senior citizens taking part. We think it's fantastic when these people get regular exercise in the fresh air, regardless of their speed. By helping out with the Trophy, we can do something for society that we ourselves also really enjoy."
The group of inaugural runners was a colorful mix. In addition to regular Trophy runners from near and far, Christian Pötzsch, who supports the Trophy as a service partner with his personal coaching company "CP Sports", and Sabine van der Ende from Zug Cantonal Hospital, a co-sponsor of the Trophy, were also present.
