The Winter Challenge lives up to its name
The cold temperatures are not yet drawing the crowds to the start in the Herti. Participants pressed the stop button on their smartphones around a hundred times in the first week.
Despite the cold, the number of participants is similar to last year. In 2017, around 100 athletes with a total of almost 400 times registered at the end of the stage. After a quarter of the stage duration, the Raiffeisen Zuger Trophy is therefore on course in its warm-up phase. With the metrological start of spring last Thursday, hopefully the thermometer will now also rise from the double-digit minus temperatures into the double-digit plus range. Not only does this make it easier to breathe, but exercise in the fresh air is also simply more fun.
Familiar picture
As is so often the case, Philipp Arnold from Cham is in the lead after the first week. With his current time of 20:55 minutes, he would also have won in 2017. However, he was faster last year, even significantly faster at 19:47 minutes. "The conditions in the cold and snow were not yet ideal," says Arnold about his first Trophy time of the year. He will definitely come back when the path is free of snow. And then he will extend his lead over the runner-up.
Chance of a top ten finish
The women's ranking list, which is headed by Jennifer Heer from Glattburgg, does not yet have very many participants. The chance of a top ten ranking is therefore relatively high. A good reason to run the lap extra fast.
