When the 10th kilometer has it all
The Trophy inspires. Over 9,400 times were clocked just before the summer break.
The Zugerberg Finanz Trophy inspires. Sara Hübscher is also one of its fans - and she dreads the 10th kilometer up to the Gubel every year.
Sara Hübscher (41) writes regularly about the Trophy, stages, sponsors, volunteers' associations and participants. She is often at the start herself, as she was that early morning in Menzingen. The weather was perfect: cool, dry, perfect for the 14-kilometer route. The evening before, she briefly clicked through the ranking list. You just have a quick look: Has Thomas already started? How fast was Nicole? But most importantly: your own best time from previous years. Can you do it a few seconds faster and then be happy for days about having beaten your age? All thoughts that many a Trophy fan might have before the start - and all thoughts that only the Trophy spirit can evoke.
Tough altitude meters
6.40 a.m. The machine stamps the map. Sara Hübscher sets off, undecided as to how fast she should tackle the route. On the long Menzinger stage, things usually go well at the start, because after the first 30 meters of elevation gain, the route descends to Finstersee. There, you can expect a crisp climb, every year with a rather boggy section and today with the realization: this will not be a fast lap. And then comes the 10th kilometer with around 100 metres of elevation gain. On the merciless climb up to the Gubel, your personal best time recedes into the distance - yay!
Pure joy
Panting on the Gubel, the time is now irrelevant. Sara Hübscher is not beating her age today, but she is enjoying the fantastic view all the more. The four kilometers back to the village are pure joy; joy in the morning sun, joy in the fun of running. In the evening, an email informs me that the time has been recorded. Sara Hübscher's time is now somewhere in the middle of the rankings. Maybe next year it will be a bit faster again.
