Workshop on training planning
Christian Pötzsch from CP Sports hosted a free workshop yesterday, Saturday, March 16, 2019. There were plenty of tips and tricks for getting faster.
Right at the start, Christian asked the three female and four male athletes to make a note of their sporting goals. There is Andrea, for example, who is aiming for a triathlon podium place over the Olympic distance. Or Jörg, who would like to run 5 kilometers in 4:20 km/min. The next step is to find out what is missing that has prevented you from achieving this goal so far. Like the goals, the reasons are complex: knee pain, the flu, not training regularly enough, not swimming enough in open water... The familiar...
The first thing Christian advises his participants to do is to note the date of the competition in the calendar. From the competition date backwards, the remaining time is divided into six-week periods, known as macro planning, because new or build-up training stimuli should be set every six weeks. It is also important to mark vacations or other off periods in your planning. Over the course of the workshop, Christian returns to the calendar again and again, so that everyone takes home a rudimentary plan at the end.
A key training principle that Christian advises is polarizing training. This means 20 percent intensive training, 80 percent foundation. What is basic and what is intensive has to do with the aerobic and anaerobic systems. In the former, we tend to get our energy from fat, in the latter from carbohydrates. How you train the systems in detail is determined by numerous individual factors. Christian gives everyone present specific tips on this.
An exciting lesson for each individual. And you soon realize that Christian knows what he's talking about and has the right tip for everyone. Get in touch here if you also want to benefit from Christian's extensive knowledge more quickly.
